Sirince Village

Sirince Village is high in the mountains above Ephesus and the Aegean Sea.  The commercial heart of the village is given over to tourist shops, selling everything from scarves to the local fruit-based wines.  I wandered above the village and roamed through the crooked streets up the hillside.

Above the main section of town is an abandoned Greek Orthodox church.  It was restored in 1832 and has been open to visitors since that year.

Sirince has some of the best preserved examples of Ottoman-style homes.

Much of the village is best accessed on foot!

Satellite dishes remind one that Sirince is not a museum,
but, rather, a thriving village.

Another teacher was with me-a bit nervous about the goats-
but they were just looking for some shade.
